Church Officers & Descriptions

CHURCH BOARD: Responsible for reviewing and approving church activities, funds and programs. 

CHURCH CLERK: Responsible for church membership 
records. Recording Secretary: Responsible for minutes at board and business meetings. 

DEACONESSES: Responsible for church life activities including baptisms, communion, and nurturing church members.

DEACONS: Responsible for church life activities including baptisms, communion, the physical church structure, and nurturing church members.

ELDERS: Responsible for church life including ministering, leading the church worship service, and directing evangelism efforts. These are the laymen leaders of our church. 

SABBATH SCHOOL SECRETARY: Responsible for quarterly study materials and collecting Sabbath School offerings. 

STEWARDSHIP SECRETARY: Encourages the membership in their giving practices. Helps to ensure yearly budgets are set appropriately.

TREASURERS: Responsible for the management of church monies. Yearly receipts are generated for individual members


ADVENTURERS: A club for grades 1-4 activities designed for children to learn more about God and each other. 

CHILDREN’S MINISTRIES: Oversight of all Sabbath School children divisions (Cradle Roll through Earliteen).

GRAA CONSTITUENCY: Church members who meet at least twice a year to review and direct activities of Grand Rapids Adventist Academy.

GRAA SCHOOL BOARD: Responsible for reviewing and approving school activities, funds and programs. Board members serve a two year term.

PATHFINDERS: A club for grades 5-10; activities designed to learn more about God, each other, outdoor skills, hobbies, nature, recreation, and serving others. Usually meets Sept – May.

SABBATH SCHOOL DIVISIONS

CRADLE ROLL: Sabbath School for ages 0-4, meets in the lower level of the annex building.

KINDERGARTEN: Sabbath School for ages 5-6, meets in the lower level of the annex building.

PRIMARY: Sabbath School for grades 2-4, meets in the lower level of the annex building.

JUNIOR: Sabbath School for grades 5 & 6, meets in the upper level of the annex building.

EARLITEEN: Sabbath School for grades 7 & 8, meets in the lower level of the annex building.

YOUTH: Sabbath School for grades 9+, meets in the upper level of the annex building.

YOUNG ADULT: Sabbath School for college age+ meets in the Pastor’s study.

ADULT: Sabbath School for adults has a general program in the sanctuary and then separates into smaller classes for lesson study.


FELLOWSHIP DINNERS: Usually meet the first Sabbath of every month for a vegetarian meal together as a church family. 

SOCIAL MINISTRIES: Coordinate social events for church members to meet and interact with one another.

MUSIC MINISTRIES: Responsible for approving the music for all services held in the church, including weddings. Responsible for special music in the church service. Responsible for tuning the pianos and organ.

ADULT SABBATH SCHOOL: Responsible for the Adult Sabbath School service.

SHUT-IN MINISTRIES: Responsible to make contact with shut-in members by a personal visit to keep them in touch with church life.

WOMEN’S MINISTRIES: Responsible for ministry to women of the congregation.

COMMUNICATIONS: Responsible to submit for publication articles regarding church activities. 

Bulletin: Responsible for preparing the weekly bulletin. 

Web Site: Responsible for preparing and posting information to the web site.

COMMUNITY SERVICE, HEALTH & TEMPERANCE: Responsible for assisting our church members and our community in these areas. 

Community Service: Helps the “needy” with food and clothing. 

Heath: Helps educate members and community about health issues. 

Temperance: Helps educate members and community about temperance issues.

PERSONAL MINISTRIES: Responsible for assisting our church members and our community in spiritual service to each other through seminars, publications, and evangelistic efforts.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY: An annual appeal to encourage support of religious liberty efforts in our local and federal government.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL: A week long program in the summer for church member children as well as community children to teach them about Jesus.
